The small town of San Daniele is north west of Udine on a moraine hill about 5 km from the Villaverde Hotel & Resort. In less than 10 minutes, you can reach the main piazza, from there, in a small room in the town hall, you can find the Biblioteca Guarneriana, Friuli’s oldest library with texts from the 13th century. There is the Duomo with works by Tiepolo, the eighteenth century palazzo del Monte di Pietà and the church of Sant’Antonio Abate, which contains the most beautiful cycle of Renaissance frescoes to be found in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The long paths around the castle park offer magnificent panoramic views. San Daniele is famous for its raw prosciutto which is made unique by the town’s particular micro-climate, where sea and mountain air meet as they move along the Tagliamento river. The town holds an annual “Aria di Festa” raw prosciutto festival which attracts many visitors, Italian and foreign alike.
