Tarvisio, in the province of Udine, is a pearl of a tourist destination in Friuli Venezia Giulia, on the borders of three countries: Italy, Austria and Slovenia. A few kilometres from Tarvisio, in Val Canale, is Monte Forno or the Summit of the Three Borders (Cima dei Tre Confini) (Dreilaendereck for the Austrians and Pec for the Slovenes). On the top of Mount Lussari, a mountain in the Julian Alps, is a small village built around a convent. The view over the Tarvisio basin and the surrounding panorama hills is breathtaking. Typical alpine huts in the area offer home-made cooking, hospitality and departures for the ski slopes and trails.
A few kilometres from Tarvisio are the lakes of Fusine, one of the most fascinating places in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The two lakes of glacial origin, are connected by easy paths and are in a dense spruce forest that assumes an infinite range of colours depending on the season, making the entire place even more magical. The lakes of Fusine are at the base of the Mangart Group mountain chain.
